Then early in 1934, the company Centenary Films collapses, and with it the offer of a film part. Hollywood evaporates. Now Lesley must find work. She takes a job at Woolworths “ticket writing”, as she’s good at freehand lettering. Having been a promising art student under Linton at Perth Tech., she can paint the prices of the Woolworths merchandise. She earns forty shillings a week; the rent is thirty-five. [RED, page 14]
